What Is The Best Alarm Clock For Heavy Sleepers? A Complete Product Guide

While I have the best intentions when it comes to getting up early for work, I also happen to be a very deep sleeper.

When my alarm clock goes off in the morning, it can ring for a number of minutes without me moving a muscle. I’ve even been known to hit the snooze button, roll over and go back to sleep without ever really waking up.

This has caused me a bit of an issue. I’ve missed some morning meetings at work. I’ve gotten a late start to my day, only to find there wasn’t enough time in the day to get anything done. Not to mention, when I oversleep, I have trouble getting to bed at night.

So my friend recommended that I look into getting the best alarm clock for heavy sleepers, to finally resolve this problem.

While you can read the time just like any other clock, the alarm function will alert you in a unique way that will get you up in an instant. I started doing some research online, determined to find some loud alarm clocks for heavy sleepers. I was impressed with the technology that’s out there.

This Sonic Bomb alarm clock from Sonic Alert is designed for anybody that is worried about being able to wake up on time in the morning.

When it comes to sound, you’ll be woken up by 113db of alarm noise. That’s sure to get you going but if it doesn’t, the shake alert and vibrating unit will move you out of your bed in a hurry. This is the industry’s most powerful bed shaker, so if you’re someone that wants to get away from loud noise alarms that wake up the whole house, this is the perfect, private way to get you and only you up.

Pros

  • It’s great that this clock has the option of turning off the alarm sound feature. If you have a house full of kids and adults but you need to get up on time, this is a great way to address your heavy sleeping concerns.
  • The volume on the alarm is adjustable. You have the option to use the shake function along with a typical level of sound.
  • You can use this in a your teenager’s bedroom if they are a heavy sleeper. You won’t have to head into their room and try to get them up. Simply let this unit do its job.
  • There are even small lights that will flash when the alarm is engaged. In a dark room, this will add to your wake up effectiveness.

Cons

  • The level of shaking / vibrating that you experience may vary depending on the thickness of your mattress. -Some internet reviews express concern over how stable the unit itself is. Some of the buttons and parts are a bit flimsy.
  • Battery backup may occasionally fail. If the power goes out, you may not be able to rely on the alarm to go off in the morning.
  • If you are setting the alarm and miss your time, you have to go all the way back through the 24-hour clock.

Clocky

4.2/5

The design of this alarm clock for heavy sleepers is really unique. It’s actually a clock on wheels. This just isn’t a concept for attractiveness, you clock will actually jump down from three feet in the air, make a ton of noise and then move around while bumping into things. If that doesn’t wake me up, I don’t know what would.

The Clocky has the ability to change directions, continue beeping and basically make itself a nuisance. It works on both carpeted flooring and wood. You can customize the alarm time, set a snooze time and control how long the snooze feature will last you. If you don’t want to use the snooze feature, you can disable it completely.

Pros

  • This is a very loud alarm clock that is perfect for people who are heavy sleepers. The sound itself is very high pitched, sounding almost robotic. This is definitely an interesting way to get going each day.
  • -The unique design makes it perfect for an adult room, but you can also use it for a teenager or college student that is having trouble waking up each morning
  • It’s a very simple unit to program and use. You can easily reset it each day.

Cons

  • It definitely looks like a robot. If you don’t want something that looks like a toy in your bedroom, then this might not be the option for you.
  • Because it moves, you will have to keep changing out batteries when they become low. There isn’t a feature that allows you to charge it or plug it in.
  • The sound can not be customized. You are stuck with the level of volume and the noise that it makes.

Clarity Wake

Wake Assure Alarm Clock

3.5/5

This is a clock that is designed with time accuracy in mind, along with the ability to get you up and moving each morning. This Clarity WAKE unit is weighted, helping it stay in place when it goes off each morning.

The shake feature and loud noise can sometimes cause other units to shift around your nightstand or dresser. It’s also a very small and compact unit. It’s not going to look as large and gawky as some other models on the market.

Pros

  • Very comprehensive setting process. Other clocks force you to go through an entire 24-hour clock in order to re-set your alarm. This unit doesn’t make you do that.
  • Very compact design that will fit just about anywhere in the vicinity of your bed.
  • The alarm sound is loud enough to wake you up, but it’s a pleasant sound. It doesn’t attempt to get you out of bed already in a bad mood because of annoying noise.
  • A large reset button makes it simple for you to turn the alarm off when you wake up.
  • The alarm will start off slow and gradually work its way up.

Cons

  • The volume buttons on your clock can easily adjust themselves to a different setting, especially when the alarm is engaged. Internet reviewers have suggested placing a piece of tape over the dials in order to keep them in one spot. You can also just check them each time you set your alarm to ensure they’re set where you want them to be.
  • The Wake Assure unit is very functional, but it tends to be one of the more higher priced units on the market.
  • The user manual isn’t very descriptive. You may need to figure out how to work this alarm on your own. Rest assured, it’s a pretty simple unit that you should be able to get going within minutes.

Peakeep 4

3.2/5

This clock looks like a traditional alarm clock, but it has a much louder sound than a typical clock would. Loud enough that it will work for someone who is a heavy sleeper, or it can work for someone with partial hearing loss.

Pros

  • It has the design of an old-school, vintage clock.
  • The clock hands are silent.
  • There is a button that you can press to engage a backlight
  • It fits into just about any bedroom design.
  • Very small and compact.

Cons

  • There is no snooze button. You physically have to get up and turn the alarm off in the morning.
  • The clock is not really visible during the night unless you press the button that turns on the backlight. Most people don’t want to take the effort to do that when they’re half asleep.
  • There is no shake feature, and there is no ability to control the type of volume used when the alarm goes off.

This is an alarm clock for heavy sleepers that will work through vibration. You place it under your mattress, and it will vibrate when it’s time to get up.

You use an app for your smartphone that allows you to control all of your settings from here. It’s a great unit to use if you have other people in the home or bedroom that you don’t want to be woken up from a loud alarm.

Pros

  • The vibration itself is very strong. It is marketed to be about twice as strong as your smartphone vibration would be.
  • Very thin and sleek design. It fits under your mattress without you even noticing.
  • A Smart App lets you control your device without having to remove it from the mattress each time you need to reset it.

Cons

  • You simply put this unit under your mattress. There is no connected clock that will tell you the time throughout the night.
  • There isn’t a digital display that you can use to easily set the alarm. The overall ease of use isn’t that great using the App.
  • Because the unit is set and placed directly under your mattress, you worry that the weight of your mattress is going to harm the alarm.
  • You could potentially forget to set your alarm since the unit is under your mattress.

This is an extremely unique alarm clock design for people who are heavy sleepers or have trouble getting out of bed in the morning. In order to turn the alarm off, you physically have to get out of bed, walk to the mat and stand on it.

The weight of your body will be needed in order to turn off the alarm. You have to stand in place for three full seconds or the alarm will continue to sound. It has the ability to be personalized with the MP3 of your choice, and the feel of the rebounding-memory foam is great.

Pros

  • Free software lets you control the music or alarm that is used to get you up and out of bed each day.
  • You wake up feeling more motivated thanks to your programmable sounds. You aren’t woken up by an annoying beep.
  • It has a unique design, allowing you to put it in your bedroom or bathroom without it standing out
  • Minimalist design makes it highly effective but discreet.
  • The Free library gives you options to program positive affirmation in the morning.

Cons

  • The surface of the mat seems like it might be a bit hard to clean off. After many uses, it could start to look old and worn out.
  • The volume itself cannot be controlled, but you can control how long you need to stand on the mat in order for it to turn off.
  • There aren’t various color choices. The only option is blue.

Our Choice

A bit of research on alarms for heavy sleepers resulted in many different options. Really, it comes down to what you need from an alarm. Some people feel they’ll wake up easier if they have a loud, annoying sound get them out of bed.

There are other people who need something like a vibration under their mattress. Of course, you have the option of an alarm that will physically require you to get out of bed in order to turn it off.

Out of the six alarm clock that I researched, our number one choice was the Ruggie Alarm Clock. Our decision was based on its effectiveness to get someone out of bed, and its features.

The Ruggie alarm clock is a unique product due to its design, and I find it pretty cool that you get a free library of sounds to choose from, including positive affirmations.

Standing on it for a set time is a great way to wake up without wanting to crawl back into bed, and it sure beats a annoying phone or clock that makes it easy to hit that snooze button.
